How to Prepare for Your Video Shoot: A Simple Guide

First time in front of a camera? Most of our clients are. And almost all of them say the same thing afterwards: “That was much easier than I expected.” Here's how to make sure your shoot day goes smoothly.
Before the shoot
- Know your key messages. You don't need a word-perfect script. Just be clear on the 3–4 points you want to get across.
- Choose your outfit the night before. Solid colours work best on camera. Avoid busy patterns, thin stripes and all-white or all-black.
- Get a good night's sleep. It sounds obvious, but tiredness shows on camera more than you'd think.
- Tidy the filming location. We'll help with this on the day, but a quick declutter beforehand saves time.
On the day
- Relax. We come from a theatre background, so directing people on camera is what we do best. We'll guide you through every step.
- Speak naturally. Talk as if you're explaining something to a friend, not reading a press release.
- Don't worry about mistakes. We film multiple takes. Nobody gets it perfect first time, and that's completely fine.
- Trust the process. We'll tell you where to look, how to stand, and when to pause. You just need to be yourself.
After the shoot
We handle everything from here. You'll receive a draft edit via Vimeo within 2–3 weeks, and we'll work through any feedback together until you're happy with the final cut.
The most important thing? Don't overthink it. We've been doing this for 30 years, and we've never had a client who couldn't do it.
